What is the most influential book you have read besides the Bible? Why?
A lot of books ran through my head when I considered which one has been most influential to me: everything from Chronicles of Narnia to Where the Red Fern Grows to The Screwtape Letters to Fahrenheit 451. I settled on Wonder by R.J. Palacio, because it shows the profound impact and significance of kindness (or harshness).
What is your favorite or funniest moment at Geneva?
Geneva’s football team’s overtime win against Brentwood last season was one for the history books! Our band and student section were causing such a ruckus that people probably heard it in the next county!
What will you miss most when you leave Geneva?
Whatever college I attend will be much bigger than Geneva, and therefore it won’t have quite the same sense of community and closeness that Geneva has, something that I have enjoyed (and probably taken for granted sometimes) throughout high school.
Who influenced you most while at Geneva? How?
Mr. Poole has been a great influence on me by serving as a mentor to me in various ways. I loved his class, particularly Dante and the history of the Vikings. I worked with him and a few fellow students multiple times a week in preparation for the Beatles Induction Day theme, and my friends and I spent a lot of time in conversation with him during lunch this past year.
What does being a Geneva student mean to you?
To me, a Geneva student means someone who is involved in many activities and responsibilities. Becoming so well-rounded is a special opportunity that Geneva provides. The simple fact that most people are involved in fine arts and sports shows how different Geneva is from nearby schools.
How would you encourage a Geneva kindergartner to persevere in school?
Until about three or four years ago, I had no idea what I wanted to do as an adult. For many people it takes even longer to figure this out. Many people who don’t like math when they are young end up in a job that heavily uses math. By studying many subjects, you keep learning new things so that it is okay to change your mind later.
What about Geneva do you hope never changes?
Great teachers who care for their students’ well-being is integral to Geneva. May Geneva always be this way!
