Geneva high school vocalists were declared Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A Vocal State Champions at the meet held at Midway High School near Waco on Saturday.
At the Large Ensemble Vocal Meet, the Geneva Mixed Rhetoric Choir and Rhetoric Women’s Choir received Sweepstakes by earning Superior ratings of 1 in both Concert Performance and Sight Reading. Rhetoric Men’s Choir competed in Concert Performance only and received a Superior rating of 1 as well.
The combined points from Saturday’s performances, as well as the 14 superior ratings earned at the TAPPS State Solo and Ensemble Meet held in late March, lifted them to win the TAPPS 4A Vocal State Meet and be declared State Champions.
Geneva students who received Superior Ratings to help clinch the State Championship were José Ballí, Liam Bell, Amber Bormann, Soren Burkholder, Katelyn Davis, Lydia duPerier, Eleanor Galbreath, Alex Iyer, Cammie Kidd, Sarah Ledoux, Bailey Lyons, Lauren McDaniel, Aimée Metzger, Anna Beth Muck, Noah Nilsson, Ainsley Plesko, Lily Radigan, Abigail Russell, Jack Swanson, Katie-Grace Styles, Charlotte Walker and Alethea Ward.
Additional students who participated were Jillian Albus, Will Bower, Hanson Brown, Alexis Davis, Michael De Vries, Jacob Dishongh, Brooks Fessler, MacKenzie FitzGerald, Richard Hicks, Alex Iyer, Grant Mowery, Kensi Parker, Nicolas Siller, Ethan Valdez and Grace Wacker.
“Our students, director Benjamin Vis and Meredith Vis, accompanist, worked extremely hard and it’s wonderful to see their efforts rewarded,” Geneva Director of Fine Arts Gradi Evans said.
