Several Geneva Rhetoric School artists placed in the top 10 of over 400 entries in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Student Western Art Contest over the weekend. Geneva students have won scholarship money every year since 2015 under the instruction of Cathy Lester. This year three students placed first in their respective categories.
Sophomore Hailey Kirchner (left) placed first in acrylic painting with her piece titled “Stargazing.” Junior Sophia Baldwin (center) placed first in the pastel category with her piece titled “Dreaming Yonder.” Senior Elizabeth Walter (right) placed first in the monochromatic drawing category with her artwork “Showdown.” Each student received a $10,000 scholarship.
“This year, we have the unprecedented honor of celebrating three students’ great accomplishments of winning scholarships in the Student Western Art Competition. There were over 400 entries from Central Texas, and the competition was intense for the 10 categories. These students not only exhibit amazing artistic abilities, but also work incredibly hard,” Geneva Rhetoric School art teacher Cathy Lester said.
