The Geneva School of Boerne magazine staff was named a Crown Award Finalist through the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for its work on the 2023-2024 “Geneva Quarterly” magazine. This is the ninth year in a row the staff has earned what is the highest recognition given by CSPA to a student print or digital medium for overall excellence in high school journalism.

This March, CSPA will hold its annual spring student convention in New York City where they will announce whether the Crown is gold or silver. “Geneva Quarterly” adviser Emily Rawls will travel with a group of current journalism students to attend the conference.

Publications from across the nation submitted for Crown consideration, with only 11 publications receiving a finalist nod in the General Magazine category. The student publication of the Rhetoric School has won the award nine times with the staff being named a Gold Crown Award Winner seven times between 2018-2024.

Founded in 1925, the CSPA unites student editors and the faculty advisors working with them to produce student newspapers, magazines, yearbooks and online media. The CSPA is owned and operated by Columbia University. The Gold Crown Award is the highest honor given in the various categories.

“It was a joy and a gift to work alongside these students last year creating such a beautiful and artistic publication. We are so excited to travel to New York City and receive our Crown award in person,” Mrs. Rawls said.

Staff members who contributed to the 2023-24 magazine included Hailey Kirchner, Claire Coultress, Lindsay Lee, Suzi Nilsson, Jacob Goodman, Emma Malkowski, Ella Dillinger, Mazzy Horn-O’Brien, Ella Owens, Caroline Pickle, Will Pickle, Emrey Taylor, Abigail Bussey, Harper Deimund and Sopris Oglesby.
